Good chemistry brings us and new graduates together

Fresh from university, four young people have brought their fresh energy and potential to Robert Hopkins as they launch their waste management careers with us.

The four chemistry graduates – Harvey, Louis, Georgina and James – were recruited through the assessment day we held for entry to our graduate scheme.

Working with the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, we shortlisted an impressive group of young people to take part in the assessment day activities. These were designed to show their technical abilities, personal skills and potential, while also having some fun together.

Harvey and Louis were selected as ideal fits for the two places on our year-long graduate scheme, where they will spend time in different parts of the business.

Two other candidates shone brightly too – we couldn’t pass them by! So, we matched them to existing opportunities: Georgina has joined us as a technical assessor and James as a site chemist.

All four graduates are receiving comprehensive support and development, including ongoing CIWM accredited training alongside coaching and mentoring from members of our experienced team.

Already getting stuck into their new roles, in their first week Georgina and James also found themselves in the starring role of extras on set in some promo filming of our work operations.

Now in its third year, our graduate scheme has a high retention rate. Last year’s intake, Libby and Trey, finish the scheme soon. Both have been offered permanent positions with us.

“We’re delighted to have all these bright young professionals on board,” says Siobhan Hopkins, our Continuous Improvement Manager. “Developing new talent and early career pathways is important for us and the wider industry. We’re excited to have spotted these talented individuals and wish them every success in starting their careers with us.”
